CRUSH

The thing about having a crush is that it sucks you dry. It takes your time, giving additional breakage to your split ends, adding more lines to your aging skin and can totally make you a klutz due to days of missing. Worse, you stare blankly at the sky with a developing grin making someone doubt your sanity as they accidentally see you in your stupor.

We all undergo this passage when all our hormones are raging and blame our genetic legacy why we were not gifted. It all begins on a one fine morning when the world is on our side and from afar we see a heavenly sight, so pleasing if only our tonsils can shout in glee and our heart beats as fast as the leopard. We smile to ourselves but when the object of our affection is within arms reach we pretend as if no one was there. We abhor their presence especially if unprepared and yearn for their scents or shadows when they are not around. Call it crazy but no matter how confident we are on certain matters, we get tongue tied, we get catatonic when they are present worse our speech transforms like that of an infant. “Hi” then an uncertain smile then leave. For someone out of stratosphere it may be the shortest conversation but for us it will forever envelope our memories, keeping us awake at night. If only we can develop wings turn midnight or teleport ourselves to the closets of our desires or be invisible just to observe them in their day to day lives. What they eat, how they lose their bowels and all those little things. Call it creepy but we reach that certain point that we search a memory or find a memento, take example not washing your shirt after they touch you, thinking at the end of the day at the confines of your room that their hand is still their clutching your shoulder softly or giving you a free massage. Despite all the audio-visual hallucinations, we find comfort in this near psychiatric measures even losing our neuronal circuitry to satiate our temporary madness.

We go on in this hysterical state hoping that this deep dark secret of ours will never be unveiled until the moment that people starts to stare at you and talk behind your back. Really? A crush on that person? The nerve! And then we get paranoid. We lose our logic, our confidence withers and our personality vanishes.

We would rather hide under the sheets than have a breath of fresh air. We would slowly wilt away like a plant placed under the heat of the sun until our moisture dries up. Our crush can bring us hope or dampen our spirits. But the fact remains that they can change our life perspective. And then we try to do all things to forget them, to stop them from recurring in our thoughts, controlling our brain. We try hardest until our reserves are used, until the moment that we want the ground to swallow us up and the world to end. But reality bites and we try to live one day at a time, hoping that we survive in one piece. Our spirits broken and our flesh destroyed but we slowly pick up the pieces and retrieve our sanity. Seconds seem like days and days seem like years. We blame ourselves with endless questions in mind. We cry until our tear ducts scream, we doubt ourselves and curse our existence until our bodies get numbed and accustomed to all the drama. We are alive but we don’t live at all. But we fight, we fight for we know that we should take control, we try to build what is left until we wake up one morning and the feeling is gone. Like atlas had lifted the world on our shoulders. We then live the life we should have lived. And we recover ourselves and the people we had lost in the process. We stand up because we know we will survive. And life continues until that one fine morning when another heavenly sight will appear again but we already know what to do yet sometimes, most of that sometimes, we subject ourselves back in the same old process again.

In Review

Movies are an expression of our daily lives. Our hidden desires and emotional angst are depicted in those characters in the big screen that sometimes we can associate with them having multiple playbacks until the DVD screams stop. Well, it’s just an introduction to make you interested. Here are my takes on the previous movies that I have seen.

Wreck it Ralph

Reviews of the movie were positive and on the opening day there were long lines at Abreeza. After much debate to myself I decided to watch the movie. It is cartoons so it can wait but this one was quite intriguing. Wreck It Ralph reminded of my ATU days at Ilustre. I have been into arcade games when I was young enough for my mother to file for bankruptcy. However, such addiction came into halt as I began to suffer migraines. Imagine those characters come to life after the shop closes. It was funny to see Ken complaining of back pains because he was tired of giving punches and saying (Adooken!). And Pacman counseling a group of villains – its like Alcoholic Anonymous. Hilarious. To cut the story short, Ralph the villain in the arcade game was tired of being the villain as well as living in the dump while the good guy, Felix  (fixing things was his specialty) got all the attention and was living in the penthouse (by the way he always get a medal in the end). He wanted to have recognition and the only way to get that is by getting a medal. So he went into Super Turbo (meaning going to other games to find a medal.) Its like playing Super Mario and suddenly this unusual character appears on the screen. Havoc sets in and later on realizes that it is important to be true to yourself. It is a heartwarming movie with a dose of laughter. I highly recommend it for adults and kids.

Skyfall

If there’s any character that kicks ass with panache and looks untouched afterwards, it’s Bond. James Bond. The 23rd installment of the Bond Franchise and the third of Daniel Craig’s portrayal of the character was still a delight to see. My father is a fan of the James Bond which explains why I have one of the actors name. And if ever I’ll be reincarnated, I want to live his life.
The latest installment was less on gadgetry and more on action sequence. There were less nude scenes and more bruises. With the replacement of a new H and death of M, people will have to wait what’s in store for Bond. It’s not your usual installment; even my Dad said it was: “Ok Lang” But still, it was worth the penny.

That Guy is in Lab with You Pare!

The opening day of This Guy’s In Love With You Mare was a regular day here in Davao City. People in Manila may flock to the point of stampede the cinemas however it was opposite in our case. There were still a few chairs available during the last full show. Is it that other mall goers were anticipating the turn of events that they opt to watch it later rather than the opening day to avoid meeting their pasts, hobnob with their frenemies or prevent oneself from the tuna atmosphere? Whatever their reasons, I was still happy I grabbed a seat. Together with my friend Totet, who’s becoming bored of her life to the point of a nervous breakdown, we watched the movie…

...And we laughed. This is one of the movies where you just want to sit down and let your mind rest. The actors portrayed their characters well and their actions spoke volumes. This Guy’s In Love with You Mare is about Luis who had a three year relationship with Vice. Despite all the efforts Vice gave to him (true to the nature of gays supporting guys or they called “papa”) – finishing his school and even giving money to his family, Luis called it quits. Vice was sadden by the turn of events and stalked Luis only to find out that Luis was in love to a girl, Toni. Vice became even more depressed to the point of jumping off the bridge but thanks to his supportive friends and families, his in-law gave him the idea to court Toni, and hoped she would fall in love so that Luis and her would break up and have Luis in his arms again. And so begins the chaos.
