The Dong Juan Experience

We were curious about the restaurant located at the third floor of Abreeza frequently flooded with customers. And you wont miss the warm Chinese man in front of the door, inviting passers by to try his cuisine. I, being a mall rat and a lover of food together with my friend, Myk, tried out their menu one cold night after salivating from book sale at Fully Booked. The excitement have caused us hunger pangs that we were looking for affordable dining. And here are the pictures...

Kalamansi Blush is a weird concoction. For someone looking for an exotic drink, this can be reconsidered

SEDA Abreeza Hotel - A New Beginning

One of the perks of my profession is exploring new places as scientific lectures or simply called round table discussions are held in various places around the metro. The recent info drive was held at the new SEDA Hotel right beside Abreeza Mall located at J.P. Laurel Ave. Bajada, Davao City. Opened last March 2013 and still with its final completion, we arrived through their underground parking which only caters 51 spaces. That caused a stir below as drivers were having a hard time searching for a parking area. We rode the elevator to the ground floor and when we reach the area we were greeted with a minimalist feel having white and black as predominating color scheme. The staff greeted us in Dabawenyo dialect. The lobby had several MAC computers installed that if only I can bring one home. The function room was spacious and the comfort room contained huge mirrors enough to support your vanity. I have got to see the bedrooms. I was not able to get a picture of the whole Mezzanine area due to an ongoing event (gatecrashing is not my style.) Overall the SEDA Hotel is one new kid on the block worthy to be discovered. Pictures, copyright, below.

That Guy is in Lab with You Pare!

The opening day of This Guy’s In Love With You Mare was a regular day here in Davao City. People in Manila may flock to the point of stampede the cinemas however it was opposite in our case. There were still a few chairs available during the last full show. Is it that other mall goers were anticipating the turn of events that they opt to watch it later rather than the opening day to avoid meeting their pasts, hobnob with their frenemies or prevent oneself from the tuna atmosphere? Whatever their reasons, I was still happy I grabbed a seat. Together with my friend Totet, who’s becoming bored of her life to the point of a nervous breakdown, we watched the movie…

...And we laughed. This is one of the movies where you just want to sit down and let your mind rest. The actors portrayed their characters well and their actions spoke volumes. This Guy’s In Love with You Mare is about Luis who had a three year relationship with Vice. Despite all the efforts Vice gave to him (true to the nature of gays supporting guys or they called “papa”) – finishing his school and even giving money to his family, Luis called it quits. Vice was sadden by the turn of events and stalked Luis only to find out that Luis was in love to a girl, Toni. Vice became even more depressed to the point of jumping off the bridge but thanks to his supportive friends and families, his in-law gave him the idea to court Toni, and hoped she would fall in love so that Luis and her would break up and have Luis in his arms again. And so begins the chaos.

Vigan Series - One Martyr to go please (Part 2)

After we said our prayers and wishes we soon then explored the house of one of Martyrs, Padre Burgos. From the vigan cathedral to his house is just a few meters away and can be accessed through calesa, tricycle, private vehicle or your both feet. His house reminds me of one house in Silay, Bacolod City which was spacious, full of rooms and rich in antiquity. Enjoy. (copyright applies)

Batoytoy in the light house - Cape Bojeador Lighthouse (Part 3)

a little history
Our next stop was the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse situated 45 km away from the city Laoag. Herald as one of the tallest and oldest lighthouses in the Philippines, it faces the south china sea giving out signals to passerby ships.

I was excited to see a real life lighthouse since it was my intention to go up to the peak and see the breathtaking view. I once read a story by Christina Pantoja Hidalgo. I wanted to experience that feeling. However, the stairs up was close with the sign: Danger High Voltage. I rested my case and instead enjoyed the view rather than being fried. It was a surreal experience since the walls are made of bricks and its already chipping off. I never bothered to talk to the care taker but there was an eerie feeling around. Still it was an amazing sight to behold. Enjoy (copyright applied)
